Making connections – Student statistics team

Alison Ashby – looks at satisfaction measure notes about younger students more likely to take to online aspects, less interested in face 2 face. No qualifications and those in our wider participation targets are more positive in the online environment than average. Bily Khokar who has carried out really good work with trying to bring people from deprived areas including using OpenLearn, expressed some surprise about the positive term, because there is so much work needed to get going. Alison made a great point that there were some course difference and one of the award winners (B120) showed how support and staff development made a real difference. She added an overall proviso that it was vitally important that they were on the right courses.

I felt that this work offered links into the insights from the OpenLearn survey work. We are also seeing that younger users are keener on the greater use of communication in conjunction with OpenLearn. The course survey is a huge resource surveying I think around 30,000 learners with the advantage that we also know there learning focus as registered students.
