MoodleMoot Steve Hyndman

July 25, 2006

Steve used a Moodle site for presentation rather than powerpoint. I think the URL is http://www.georgetownprofessor.net/online/view.php?id=5. The focus was a sort of ePortfolio system. He started with some good points about who wants an ePortfolio, i.e the assurance agencies not students or teachers. This impacts on the amount of effort that people will put in to it. This might well inhibit those using systems like elgg that imagine myspace-like levels of engagement.

His key idea is to give each student a moodle course with teacher priveleges. His answer is to start simple and to role out as a departmental website as well. Process is to set up template, back it up and restore repeatedly with entries for each student. He also recommended stripping down Moodle for use by students. It sounds like it works but there are issues about whether it meets the external requirements and transferability.
